Cabinet Honours Bio for ECOWAS Chairmanship and 2026 Summit

Sierra Leone’s Cabinet has presented President Dr. Julius Maada Bio with a signed appreciation citation and commemorative plaque recognising his tenure as Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.

The presentation took place during a Cabinet meeting at State House in Freetown on 22 July 2026. The meeting, initially expected to be routine, became a tribute ceremony led by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and Cabinet Ministers.

Recognition of regional leadership

The tribute covered President Bio’s chairmanship from June 2025 to July 2026. It also recognised Sierra Leone’s hosting of the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit 2026.

Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh praised President Bio’s leadership, commitment to regional peace and security, and support for the ECOWAS integration agenda. He described the chairmanship as a defining chapter in Sierra Leone’s diplomatic history.

Dr. Sengeh also said the summit represented one of the largest diplomatic gatherings in Sierra Leone’s history. The country welcomed 11 heads of state, more than 2,000 visitors and over 500 delegates for the regional meeting.

The ceremony concluded with Cabinet reaffirming its commitment to supporting President Bio’s vision of strengthening Sierra Leone’s regional and global standing through effective governance, unity and national service.
