Employers Federation Pledges Support for Labour Ministry on Employment Law
The Sierra Leone Employers Federation has pledged to work with the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security to support employment law implementation and strengthen tripartite cooperation.
The Sierra Leone Employers Federation has reaffirmed its readiness to work with the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security on labour and employment matters, including the implementation of the Employment Act.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Federation to Minister Umaru Napoleon Koroma and senior ministry officials at the Minister’s office in Freetown on 2 October 2026.
The meeting brought together members of the SLEF executive, the Commissioner of Labour and other senior officials of the Ministry. The Commissioner of Labour called the meeting to order.
Federation outlines role
During the engagement, representatives introduced the Federation’s executive and explained its activities and role within Sierra Leone’s tripartite labour system, which brings together the Government, employers and workers.
Tamba Allieu Kokobay, Vice Chairman of SLEF, congratulated Minister Koroma on his appointment and thanked him for receiving the organisation. He said the Federation had worked over the years to improve its visibility and capacity to represent employers across Sierra Leone.
Kokobay also said SLEF works closely with the Sierra Leone Labour Congress and the Ministry under the tripartite framework. He highlighted the Federation’s fully functional secretariat and its increased participation in national and international labour engagements.
“We are here to introduce ourselves to you, for you to know that we are there and ready to work with you. You can call on us at any time,” Kokobay said.
He stressed that cooperation among employers, workers and the Government was important for addressing challenges in the labour and employment sector. The Federation also expressed its willingness to support the Ministry and promote constructive engagement between employers and workers.
Minister emphasises Employment Act
Minister Koroma welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the Federation’s visit and contribution to Sierra Leone’s labour sector.
He said his priority was to strengthen cooperation with employers, workers and other stakeholders so that labour laws could be effectively implemented, with particular attention to the Employment Act.
“My intention, and I have made it very clear from day one, is to work together with you to see how we can implement the provisions of this Act,” the Minister said.
The engagement reaffirmed the importance of cooperation among the Government, employers and workers in addressing labour issues and supporting the implementation of employment laws in Sierra Leone.
