ACC Arrests 39 SLRSA Employees Over Alleged Fraud
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone has arrested 39 employees of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) following a raid at the agency's headquarters on September 12, 2024. The operation, led by the ACC's Scorpion Squad, targeted the Licenses Department amid allegations of widespread fraud involving system operators.
An internal audit report had raised concerns about possible breaches in the licensing system, prompting the investigation. It is alleged that certain system operators were bypassing mandatory fees, including income tax and circulation fees, intended for the National Revenue Authority (NRA), resulting in substantial financial losses for the government between March and August 2024.
Those arrested are now cooperating with the ACC as investigations continue. The SLRSA has reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards any financial misconduct.
