Aminata Fullah Makes History as North East Region’s First Female FIFA Badge Referee
Aminata Fullah, hailing from the vibrant town of Magburaka-Tonkolili District, has achieved a significant milestone in the world of football refereeing. Breaking gender barriers and setting new standards, she has become the first female FIFA badge referee in the North East Region.
Her journey into officiating began in 2018, marked by dedication and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Over the years, Fullah's ascent through the ranks has been nothing short of remarkable. Her recent recognition as one of the Assistant Referees among the ten unveiled FIFA referees for 2024 by the Sierra Leone Football Association speaks volumes of her talent and commitment.
Fullah's rise to prominence can be attributed to her outstanding performance during the 2021/22 North East Region Football Association (NERFA) Super Ten competition. It was her standout performances that earned her a well-deserved promotion, allowing her to officiate in the country's premier leagues, both male and female, during the preceding 2022/23 season.
One of the defining moments of her career came when she officiated the final of the Southern Arena gala competition, a historic event coinciding with the grand opening ceremony of a 6,000-capacity stadium in May 2023. Her adept handling of the match between East End Lions and Bo Rangers FC showcased her proficiency and earned her widespread acclaim.
In the ongoing 2023/24 Leone Rock Premier League, Fullah served as a Central Referee in three matches, demonstrating her versatility and competence on the field. Moreover, her active involvement in officiating various games in the Women’s Premier League 2023/24 season underscores her pivotal role in promoting gender inclusivity within Sierra Leonean football refereeing.
