Tensions Rise as Babadi Kamara and Thomas Daddy Brima Face Off for SLFA Presidency

The race to lead Sierra Leone’s football governing body has just gotten more intense. Two well-known names in the local football scene—Babadi Kamara and current SLFA president Thomas Daddy Brima—have both officially declared their intention to run for the top job.

Kamara, a successful businessman and chairman of Bo Rangers FC, made headlines after confirming he would submit his nomination papers on Sunday, June 15—the final day for all presidential hopefuls to file. His late entry has stirred up a wave of anticipation, with many predicting a dramatic showdown between him and Brima.

President Brima, who took the helm in 2021, is aiming for a second term. His leadership has received mixed reviews. Supporters applaud him for improving infrastructure and investing in the national team. But critics—including Kamara’s backers—argue that under his watch, football in Sierra Leone has lacked real growth, and decision-making hasn’t been as transparent as hoped.

Behind the scenes, both camps have reportedly been trading accusations for months. Kamara’s supporters say the current SLFA administration has been blocking fresh voices and ideas. On the other hand, Brima’s allies claim Kamara lacks national-level football experience and is merely seizing an opportunity.

Two other candidates—Umar Bah and Aminata Bangura—have also submitted their payment slips, signaling their intention to contest. But many insiders believe this election will come down to Kamara versus Brima, a duel of ambition, influence, and competing visions for the future of Sierra Leonean football.

With the nomination period now closed, the real contest begins. As campaigns kick off, fans and football stakeholders alike will be watching closely to see who wins not just the election, but the trust of the football-loving nation.
