Momoh Kamara Leads Sierra Leone to Historic AFCON U-20 Quarter-Finals

Sierra Leone U-20 captain Momoh Kamara is capturing attention at the 2025 AFCON U-20 tournament in Egypt, earning back-to-back Man of the Match honors and leading the competition’s goal tally with three goals.

Kamara, who plays professionally for Minnesota United, played a decisive role in Sierra Leone’s 1-0 win over Tanzania, helping his team secure a place in the tournament’s quarter-finals for the first time in history. Their qualification was confirmed following a goalless draw between Egypt and Zambia.

Expressing his ambition, Kamara said he is determined to help Sierra Leone qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Chile. “Our dream is to make history, and I’ll give everything on the pitch to achieve that,” he said.

With one group match left against South Africa, Sierra Leone has already advanced to the knockout stage. A win in the quarter-finals would secure the team’s place at the upcoming U-20 World Cup.

Once seen as underdogs, the Shooting Stars are now viewed as serious contenders—with Kamara’s leadership and performance driving their success.
