APC Media Member Refutes Claims of 'Chairman for Life' Title for Ex-President Koroma
Minkailu Koroma, a member of the All People’s Congress (APC) Media Team, has dismissed claims that former President Ernest Bai Koroma was designated as 'chairman for life' of the party, calling it a misconception propagated by certain individuals.
Responding to a leaked audio recording involving the former president, Minkailu Koroma emphasized that there was no internal betrayal, particularly regarding M.S. Bangura, a veteran APC member.
“Ernest Bai Koroma served as the chairman and leader of the All People’s Congress as well as the president of Sierra Leone. He was never given the title ‘chairman for life.’ That notion is purely speculative,” he stated.
Regarding the leaked recording, Minkailu Koroma described it as a private conversation between Ernest Bai Koroma and M.S. Bangura, which was likely recorded by an unidentified third party.
“There were voices in the background, indicating that others were present. It’s possible that the phone was on loudspeaker, allowing someone nearby to record the conversation. There is also a possibility that M.S. Bangura himself was unaware of the tape being shared,” he explained.
After analyzing the audio, Minkailu Koroma asserted that there was no evidence of disloyalty from either the former president or Bangura. He urged a rational and open-minded assessment of the situation.
The leaked recording has stirred discussions within Sierra Leone’s political landscape, leading to varied interpretations. However, Minkailu Koroma maintains that the conversation was private and should not be misconstrued as an act of internal discord within the APC.
