Finance Ministry Endorses PSC's Draft Public Service Policy During 2025 Budget Hearings

During the 2025 Budget hearings, the Ministry of Finance strongly supported the draft Public Service Policy put forward by the Public Service Commission (PSC). Dr. Ilara Mahdi, Deputy Director of Budget at the Ministry, emphasized the importance of establishing a central authority to manage HR issues within the Public Service, expressing eagerness for the policy's finalization.

Mr. Mohamed Jusu, Secretary to the PSC, highlighted the Commission's constitutional role under the 1991 Constitution, which includes overseeing recruitment, promotions, confirmations, and disciplinary actions in the Public Service. He also reviewed the PSC's achievements over 2023 and 2024, such as officer appointments, confirmations, promotions, and the refurbishment of the PSC headquarters.

The PSC has made significant progress in decentralizing its operations, conducting consultations across multiple cities. For 2025, the Commission plans to recruit 250 new officers, confirm 150 civil servants, enact the first-ever Public Service Bill, and continue its decentralization efforts.

The Ministry of Finance, alongside non-state actors, unanimously approved the PSC’s budget, demonstrating confidence in the Commission's ongoing efforts to improve HR management within the Public Service.
