Freetown Streets Targeted as Authorities Clear Illegal Garages

Freetown Streets Targeted as Authorities Clear Illegal Garages

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has launched a citywide operation to eliminate illegal street garages and roadside obstructions in Freetown.

The first phase of this initiative began on Monday, 5th May 2025, along the Hill Side Bypass Road at Dawazark Junction. Various unauthorized vehicles, motorbikes, Kekehs, and items left along the roads were cleared during the exercise.

The operation was led by the Executive Director of SLRSA, accompanied by senior officials including the Deputy Executive Director, Head of Operations, Director of Safety and Enforcement, and Director of Traffic. They were supported by the Sierra Leone Police and the Road Safety Corps, forming a joint task force to enforce the regulations.

Authorities plan to expand the operation to other parts of the city where similar street garages are affecting traffic and pedestrian movement.

The goal of this effort is to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow by ensuring that public roads remain clear and properly used.
