IMC Probes Alleged Broadcast Link Between Tumac Radio and Citizens Radio in Attempted Coup
The Independent Media Commission (IMC) has initiated a probe into a purported broadcast by Tumac Radio and Citizen Radio, allegedly connected to the attempted coup in Freetown on November 26th. The IMC emphasizes that the timing of this broadcast posed significant threats to national peace, stability, and security, potentially inciting violence, spreading misinformation, heightening public anxiety, and undermining national cohesion.
Highlighting that such allegations, if proven true, violate the IMC Act of 2020 and its Print and Electronic Regulation 2022, the commission asserts its intolerance towards such actions. The IMC commits to making the findings and decisions of the investigation public.
Furthermore, the IMC calls upon all media houses and practitioners in both print and electronic media to adhere strictly to the IMC Act 2022 and the Print and Electronic Media Regulations of 2022 at all times.
