Judiciary Transfers Weapons to Small Arms Commission for Disposal

On July 4, 2024, the Acting Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, Hon. Justice Nicholas C. Browne-Marke, transferred a collection of weapons, previously used as evidence in criminal cases, to the National Commission for Small Arms for disposal.

These weapons, which included pistols, rifles, and ammunition, had been stored by the Judiciary without adequate security measures. This transfer is in compliance with the ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms, which mandates the collection and destruction of surplus and illicit weapons.

Deputy Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Rtd. Luke Foday Ndonema commended the Judiciary for their cooperation and secure handling of the weapons.

The event saw the attendance of senior officials from both the police and defense sectors.
