Leaked WhatsApp Chat Reveals Tensions Within SLPP as Chief Minister Defends Online Remarks

A leaked WhatsApp group chat has exposed internal tensions within the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP). The screenshot, shared online, shows Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh in a heated discussion with youth members of the party.

In the chat, Dr. Sengeh defends his decision to engage opposition leaders from the All People’s Congress (APC) on social media, emphasizing the value of open dialogue in a democracy. His recent remarks, stemming from a conversation referred to as “Audio-29,” have faced criticism, with some APC members pointing out perceived errors in his statements.

Supporters of Dr. Sengeh, described as "okuru dogs" in the leaked message, have responded by defending him against these criticisms, accusing detractors of trying to undermine his credibility. This clash has sparked broader debates within the SLPP about the importance of respectful discourse and tolerance for criticism in a democratic society.

As the party grapples with these internal disagreements, there are growing calls for Dr. Sengeh to encourage a more balanced and constructive conversation, especially given the public's concerns over the tone of his communication.

The SLPP now faces the challenge of maintaining unity and upholding its public image amid increasing scrutiny.
