Man Caught Trying to Steal Electricity Meter in Freetown
Mortai Abdul Charles Sesay has been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre after appearing in court on charges of burglary and property damage.
He was arraigned before Magistrate Kakura at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court on Tuesday, April 9, 2025. The charges include burglary under the Larceny Act of 1916 and malicious damage under the Malicious Damage Act of 1861.
The case involves an incident at the Kamayama, Lumley residence of Isatu Conteh, where Sesay allegedly attempted to break into her home and damaged her electricity meter, which was valued at Le3,500.
Conteh testified that she heard unusual sounds near her meter around 9:00 p.m. When she went to investigate, she discovered that the meter had been tampered with and saw Sesay on her property. She raised an alarm, and he was detained until the police arrived the following morning.
Due to the seriousness of the allegations, bail was denied, and Sesay’s next court appearance is set for May 12, 2025.
