NaCSA and 16 Government Bodies Face NASSIT Sanctions for Unpaid Contributions
Seventeen government institutions, including the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), are under intense scrutiny for failing to remit their employees’ social security contributions to the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).
This issue came to light during a crucial meeting held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown on July 15, 2024. Among the defaulters are significant institutions like Sierratel, Sierra Leone Ports and Harbors Authority, the National Commission for the Control of AIDS (NACCA), and the National Telecommunications Authority (NatCA). Additionally, entities such as the National Leprosy and Tuberculosis Program and the College of Theology were identified for neglecting their financial duties to NASSIT.
The meeting, led by NASSIT’s Director General Mohamed Faud Daboh and Minister of Employment, Labour, and Social Security Mohamed Rahman Swaray, highlighted the serious repercussions of these defaults. Daboh handed over formal notices to Minister Swaray, detailing the outstanding debts owed by these institutions. He stressed that social security is a fundamental human right and warned that NASSIT has the legal authority to take action against defaulters.
Minister Swaray supported Daboh’s concerns, emphasizing the government's determination to enforce financial accountability. He urged all involved parties to familiarize themselves with the NASSIT Act to prevent future violations and ensure timely payment of overdue contributions.
