Njala University Student Charged in Motor Manslaughter Case

A 21-year-old student from Njala University, Luckman Koroma, appeared for the first time before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, charged with motor manslaughter.

The charges relate to an incident that occurred on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Cole Farm Junction in Freetown. Koroma, driving a Toyota FJ Cruiser with the registration number ARD 999, is accused of unlawfully causing the death of Mohamed Kawa.

During the court session, the charge was read to Koroma, but he did not enter a plea. Prosecutor Inspector Sellu Tap requested a short adjournment to consult with witnesses.

Given the severity of the charge, Magistrate Kekura denied bail and ordered Koroma to be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The case has been postponed until September 2, 2024.
