Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank) Takes Center Stage in Promoting Pan African Payment Systems

In a bid to spearhead the adoption and utilization of innovative Pan African Payment Systems (PAPPS), a delegation from Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank) embarked on a significant journey to Cape Town, South Africa. Led by Chairman of the Board of Directors, Buffy Bailor, along with Managing Director Dr. Walton Gilpin and key IT personnel, the delegation attended a high-level meeting focused on the integration of PAPPS within the African financial landscape.

Pioneered by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), PAPPS promises to establish a seamless and highly efficient international payment system. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), a landmark agreement signed by 43 African countries, including Sierra Leone, in 2018. Additionally, it seeks to actualize a resolution passed by African heads of state in 2019, endorsing PAPPS as the primary infrastructure for payments and settlements across African financial markets.

Recognizing the pivotal role of local banks in driving the adoption and promotion of this transformative payment system, the Afreximbank has collaborated with institutions like RCBank. During the event, representatives from partnering banks, including Rokel Commercial Bank, shared insights and experiences regarding the implementation of PAPPS. This collaborative exchange of knowledge underscores the collective effort required to realize the full potential of this innovative payment platform.

As a testament to its commitment and expertise in the field, RCBank was honored to be nominated as a member of the Working Group of the PAPPS network/club. This nomination positions RCBank at the forefront of efforts to promote the adoption and usage of PAPPS, not only within Sierra Leone but also across the African continent.

The endorsement of RCBank as a key player in the promotion of PAPPS reflects the institution's dedication to innovation and its proactive approach to fostering financial inclusion and economic growth. By embracing initiatives like PAPPS, RCBank reinforces its position as a leading financial institution, poised to drive positive change and catalyze progress within Sierra Leone and beyond.

As RCBank continues to champion the adoption of PAPPS, it remains committed to its mission of providing innovative financial solutions that empower individuals and businesses, ultimately contributing to the socioeconomic development of Sierra Leone and the wider African continent.
