Sierra Leone Police Recovers Over Le2 Billion in Fight Against Kush Dealers
In a recent Press Briefing held at their Headquarters in Freetown, the Sierra Leone Police provided updates on the ongoing fight against Kush and other drug Dealers in the country.
According to the Regional Assistant Inspector General of Police, Southern region, Brima Kanneh, a total of two billion six hundred and fifty thousand Leones have been collected in courts fines from drug dealers charged in 2023.
Kanneh confirmed to journalists that the above-mentioned amount collected is now in the consolidated fund.
Giving updates about dealers arrested and convicted within last year Kanneh , disclosed 65 arrest of drug dealers in tramadols, ecstasy and other, some of whom were sentenced to jail and others charged with heavy fines totaling the sum of two billion six hundred and fifty thousand Leones.
In 2024, a total of 11 people including two females – a Ghanaian identified as Sylvia and a Sierra Leonean named Musa Komba, were arrested and convicted within January and February on offences ranging from drug dealing and trafficking. All suspects are ccurrently helping with investigations.
In another update, Kanneh disclosed a recent case where they made the largest drug seizure in the country. The suspect he said has been charged to court and awaiting court proceedings.
The active Assistant Inspector General of the Southern Region also threw light on a new method of drug trafficking in and out of the country. He said that drug substances are now concealed inside footballs and musical Bluetooth.
He said that the SLP arrested Sylvia and James with Kush hidden in footballs and Bluetooth musical instruments.
He therefore concluded by calling on everybody living in Sierra Leone to pass on vital information they have so that the police can act upon them before it is too late.
