Spanish Surgeons Join Sierra Leone Police Hospital for Free Surgical Campaign

Spanish Surgeons Join Sierra Leone Police Hospital for Free Surgical Campaign

Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu has welcomed a delegation of Spanish doctors from the Surgeons in Action Foundation as they begin a week-long free surgical mission at the Police Hospital in Kingtom.

Led by Dr. Immaculada Gimenes Jimenes, the medical team plans to perform more than 200 surgeries, offering life-changing treatment to patients free of charge.

Deputy Director and Medical Superintendent of the hospital, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, praised the foundation for its continued support, noting that under the current police leadership, the facility has seen major upgrades. Once unable to handle advanced operations, the hospital is now equipped with modern technology that allows complex surgeries to be carried out locally.

IGP Sellu expressed gratitude to the visiting doctors, highlighting that the hospital now serves both police officers and the wider public. He described it as a growing teaching hospital, thanks to improvements in infrastructure and equipment.

In response, Dr. Immaculada praised the warm hospitality of Sierra Leone and assured that her team would give their very best throughout the campaign.

The visit concluded with a tour of the upgraded hospital facilities, showcasing advanced equipment, including a recently donated anesthesia machine.
