Vice President Juldeh Jalloh Reaffirms Strong Relations with China at 75th Anniversary Celebration

Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, along with senior government officials, took part in the 75th-anniversary celebration of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, emphasizing the deep and lasting bond between the two nations.

 

The event, hosted at the Chinese Embassy in Freetown, was attended by key figures from Sierra Leone, including ministers, parliament members, diplomats, and Chinese nationals.

 

In his speech, Vice President Jalloh expressed gratitude for the invitation and highlighted Sierra Leone’s important role in China’s global rise, referencing the country’s support for China’s admission to the United Nations Security Council in 1971. He underscored the significance of the Sierra Leone-China relationship, reflected by the large presence of Sierra Leonean officials at the event.

 

Speaking on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio, Vice President Jalloh congratulated China on its 75th anniversary, praising its impressive growth and resilience. He also called for reforms within the United Nations Security Council, advocating for permanent African representation and expressing hope for China’s continued support.

 

Dr. Jalloh reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with China, stressing that the long-standing partnership would continue to foster cooperation and create new opportunities for both countries.

 

Sierra Leone’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francess Piagie Alghali, commended China’s transformation from an agrarian society into a global economic powerhouse. She acknowledged China’s contributions to Sierra Leone’s development, particularly in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Alghali also emphasized China’s dedication to addressing global challenges like climate change and public health.

 

Chinese Ambassador Wang Qing reflected on China’s achievements in poverty reduction, education, and healthcare, while praising the ongoing collaboration between the two nations. He highlighted key joint projects, such as the construction of the national stadium and China’s support during the Ebola and COVID-19 crises.

 

The event ended on a positive note, with both countries looking forward to continued cooperation and growth in their diplomatic relations.
