APC Deputy Leader in Parliament Cautions New Presidential Appointees
Honourable Aaron Koroma, the deputy leader of the main opposition All People's Congress (APC) Party in the House of Parliament, has issued a word of advice to recently appointed government officials, urging them to prioritize positive change in state governance.
Representing one of the constituencies in the Tonkolili district of the Northern region of Sierra Leone, Honourable Koroma emphasized the crucial role of newly appointed individuals in key positions, particularly highlighting the significance of Supreme Court Judge Abdulai Bangura's mandate in upholding the integrity of the judiciary. Stressing the importance of a trustworthy and reputable judicial system for the nation's stability, he called upon Judge Bangura to uphold the highest standards of leadership, drawing upon his demonstrated leadership skills from his previous role at the Political Parties Regulation Commission.
In addition, Honourable Koroma directed attention to Joseph Egbenda Kapuwa, one of the nominees, urging him to exhibit strong leadership at the Independent Media Commission (IMC) and to prioritize the welfare of journalists. Expressing concern over the treatment of journalists and advocating for improved conditions within the media sector, he encouraged Kapuwa to actively work towards enhancing media freedoms and professionalism.
Furthermore, Honourable Koroma's counsel extended to other appointees, urging them to serve the nation's interests above all else, irrespective of tribal, regional, or political affiliations. Specifically addressing nominees at the National Telecommunications Authority (NaTCA), he emphasized the importance of not only revenue generation but also improving services for Sierra Leoneans. Highlighting the challenges faced by consumers in the telecommunications sector, including issues such as call duration and bonus services, he called upon NaTCA appointees to prioritize addressing these concerns and enhancing overall service delivery.
Similarly, Leader of Government Business, Honourable Matthew Nyuma, echoed the call for appointed officials to fulfill their responsibilities diligently, emphasizing the expectations placed upon them by their appointments.
Honourable Koroma's guidance underscores the importance of accountability, transparency, and service delivery within Sierra Leone's governance framework, as well as the critical role that appointed officials play in driving positive change and development for the nation and its citizens.
