Citizens Call for Justice Following Murders of Lebanese Businessman and Superintendent in Sierra Leone

Amid a rising wave of brutal killings, the people of Sierra Leone are demanding swift action from President Julius Maada Bio and Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu to bring the perpetrators to justice. Public concern over safety has surged following a series of violent incidents that have shaken confidence in law enforcement and the country's stability.

In a previous address, President Bio vowed that those responsible for the violence that erupted in August, including the murder of police officers, would face the full weight of the law. Yet, the recent brutal murders of Lebanese businessman Salim Alie Dayeck and Superintendent Adeyemi Coker have intensified public demands for more decisive action.

Salim Alie Dayeck, an 80-year-old businessman, was found dead in his home on September 11, 2024, in Kenema. His body bore multiple stab wounds, raising fears of a violent struggle. A suspect, Umaru Sama, a 22-year-old employee of the victim, has been taken into custody, but many in the community are demanding more transparency as they fear the crime may have ritualistic implications.

The murder of Superintendent Adeyemi Coker, discovered near his home in Hastings on September 1, 2024, has further alarmed citizens. Coker, a respected officer with 35 years of service, was strangled after receiving a mysterious phone call late at night. The ongoing investigation has been slow, fueling public frustration as critical details remain undisclosed.

At Coker’s funeral, Bishop A.I. Wilson raised concerns about the safety of ordinary citizens, asking how they could feel secure if even seasoned police officers were not spared from such violence. The absence of police officials at Coker's funeral only deepened the public’s dissatisfaction.

As Sierra Leone mourns these losses, citizens are demanding accountability from the government to ensure that these murders are swiftly resolved. The nation stands at a crossroads, and the people are looking to their leaders to restore confidence and ensure justice for all victims.
