Deputy Sports Minister Testifies in Major Diamond Theft Case
On September 27, 2024, Deputy Minister of Sports Kai Lawrence Bayoh testified in a prominent theft case involving a 264-carat diamond stolen from a mining site in Kono District.
Speaking before the court, Minister Bayoh provided key evidence in the trial of three individuals accused of the theft. He explained how he learned about the incident through his brother, Aiah Lebbie, and identified the first accused, Sheku Kabba, as a representative at the mining site. Kabba, along with Tamba Lebbie and a third accused, Sahr Lebbie, allegedly mishandled the valuable diamond, which was reportedly worth $42 million.
Bayoh recounted a meeting at his home where Kabba sought his help in resolving the issue. Kabba and the others promised to return the diamond, which they claimed was in the possession of another individual, but they failed to do so. The Deputy Minister then filed a formal report with authorities.
The trial continues, with the accused facing multiple charges, including conspiracy and embezzlement.
