Finding Peace in Cheshire: A Digital Detox Retreat

Finding Peace in Cheshire: A Digital Detox Retreat

Title: "Finding Peace in Cheshire: A Digital Detox Retreat"

Embarking on a three-night digital detox in Luna, an off-grid cabin in Cheshire, proved to be an eye-opening experience. The journey started with a realization of phone dependence at the M6 toll plaza, setting the stage for a respite from the chaos of the Christmas season.

The cabin, originally designed for solo travelers or couples, had been expanded based on visitor feedback to accommodate a family, including our three-year-old. As we arrived at Luna in the evening, the absence of head torches led us to traverse the muddy path using the moon's soft glow, emphasizing the commitment to an analog experience.

Inside the spacious Luna cabin, we lit a fire, stowed away our phones in a lockbox, and embraced a tech-free environment. Furnished with a Polaroid camera, a cassette player, an old Nokia phone for calls only, and board games, Luna provided an unplugged haven.

Despite initial unease and the occasional yearning for our phones, the experience unfolded beautifully. We explored Delamere Forest, engaged in analog alternatives like the Zog adventure pack, and relished moments captured on a limited Polaroid film.

The unplugged ethos extended to meals at local recommendations like Ginger and Pickles cafe and The Swan in Tarporley. We embraced a detour to the Ice Cream Farm in Tattenhall, experiencing a family-owned business diversifying its offerings.

Our days were filled with leisurely walks along the Sandstone Trail, hide and seek, and embracing the simplicity of a paper map. Nights were spent at The Hollies Farm Shop, cooking dinner as a family and savoring the best sleep in months.

As we neared the end of our detox, it became evident that the real value lay in the quality time spent with family. The return journey, marked by slow traffic on the M40, prompted a reflection on the need to plug back in. However, the promise to be more present during the festive season prevailed.

This digital detox retreat, provided by Unplugged, offered a refreshing escape from the digital realm, emphasizing the importance of being present in the moment.
