Man Arrested for Alleged Police Impersonation in Kenema
On the 19th of March, 2024, the Kenema Police Division apprehended a man suspected of impersonating a member of the Sierra Leone Police force. Identified as Vandy Genda, the individual was captured with the cooperation of local authorities in the Lango Town section of Kenema City.
The arrest was facilitated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to delve deeper into the motives behind the impersonation and to determine if the suspect engaged in any unlawful activities while posing as a police officer.
Inspector Mohamed Corneh, the Operations Officer of the Kenema Division, disclosed that the alleged impostor was found donning a complete police uniform during his illicit operations in the Lango-Town area. Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs) and other local authorities alerted the police to his suspicious activities, prompting a swift response and subsequent arrest for interrogation.
Acknowledging the proactive role played by the residents of Lango Town, Inspector Corneh urged CSVs in other sections to remain vigilant and promptly report any semblance of criminal behavior to uphold law and order in the Division.
Commending the collaborative effort, CSP Edison Vandy, the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Kenema Division, expressed gratitude to the CSVs and local authorities for their prompt action and effective sharing of information leading to the successful apprehension and detention of the suspect.
He emphasized that impersonating a police officer not only contravenes the law but also undermines public trust in law enforcement agencies. He lauded the synergy between the community and the operational units of the Kenema Division, citing it as a testament to the efficacy of community policing partnerships.
In conclusion, the incident underscores the importance of community involvement in maintaining security and reinforces the commitment of law enforcement agencies to uphold justice and integrity.
