MBSSE Delivers Newly Built Primary Schools to Two Pujehun District Communities
The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), with support from the Government of Sierra Leone, Irish Aid, the European Union, and the World Bank through the Free Education Project Secretariat, has handed over newly constructed primary schools to two villages in Pujehun District—Gbesseh in Galliness Chiefdom and Kpombu in Malen Chiefdom.
The modern schools, designed to improve education in remote areas, include six classrooms, a headteacher’s office, staff room, and a library, marking another step forward in the Free Quality School Education initiative.
During the handover ceremony, MBSSE Deputy Director Alimamy Kamara praised the importance of education for national development, urging parents to send their children to school regularly. He acknowledged the support of the government and international partners in upgrading rural education infrastructure.
Pujehun District Council Education Chairman, Philip Mando, emphasized the significance of these new schools for the future of rural children, highlighting the government's dedication to providing free and quality education.
Jinah Jusu Gobeh, the Free Education Project Coordinator, thanked the community and international donors, encouraging locals to take responsibility for maintaining the schools to ensure they serve future generations.
Both the project contractor and engineer reminded the community that while the infrastructure has been provided, its upkeep now depends on local efforts.
Residents of the beneficiary villages expressed their gratitude, committing to preserve the schools and requesting additional resources, such as learning materials, to further improve their children’s education.
This initiative represents a key milestone in Sierra Leone's efforts to expand access to free quality education, particularly in underserved rural regions.
