Authorities Begin Major Operation to Clear Illegal Street Garages in Freetown

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority has launched a new campaign aimed at removing illegal street garages and roadside obstructions throughout Freetown.

The operation began on Monday, 5th May 2025, starting at Hill Side Bypass Road, specifically around the Dawazark Junction area. Vehicles, motorcycles, Kekehs, and other objects left unattended or parked illegally along the roadside were cleared during the exercise.

Leading the operation was the Executive Director of the authority, supported by other top officials including the Deputy Executive Director, Head of Operations, Director of Safety and Enforcement, and Director of Traffic. They were also joined by members of the police and road safety corps.

Officials have announced that the operation will extend to other areas of the city where similar street obstructions are creating challenges for both motorists and pedestrians.

The initiative is aimed at improving road safety and ensuring smoother traffic flow by keeping public roads free from unauthorized blockages.
