"Ministry of Health Faces Scrutiny Over Unaccounted LE2.8 Million in Overseas Training Expenditure"

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation is under scrutiny for its failure to account for the expenditure of LE2.8 million in overseas training for its staff in 2022, according to the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL).

Despite previous recommendations and regulations, the Ministry continued paying for overseas training without providing necessary expenditure returns. In 2022, LE3.9 million was spent on overseas training for medical personnel, but auditors found a lack of essential supporting documents. The Ministry claimed attachments were made in the FreeBalance system, but only 28% of the queried amount has been verified, raising transparency concerns. The public awaits further clarification.
