NDMA Evacuates Residents from Collapsing Two-Story Building

On August 6, 2024, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) received urgent reports about a two-story building at risk of collapse on Priscilla Street, Freetown.

Led by NDMA’s Western Region Coordinator, Gerald King, a team swiftly assessed the site, discovering severe structural weaknesses. Significant cracks and detaching beams indicated the building, owned by Dudley Cowan, was in immediate danger of collapsing, threatening both residents and a nearby community bridge.

In response, two families and the homeowner evacuated the building. The NDMA cordoned off the area to ensure public safety. Immediate action, including a controlled demolition, is planned to prevent an uncontrolled collapse and protect the community.
