In a significant breakthrough, the Sierra Leone Police search team, led by Detective Police Constable 18286 Patrick Mohamed Ngobeh, achieved a milestone at the Fallah Gazetted Police Checkpoint on Bo Taiama Highway. On Monday, 22nd January 2024, Alhaji Lamin Bangura and Sidikie Kargbo were apprehended during a routine police check, traveling from Freetown, in possession of one hundred and twenty (120) counterfeit $100 bills following a rip-off incident.
The arrests unfolded as the dedicated search team, headed by D/PC 18286 Ngobeh P.M., scrutinized the suspects' luggage, uncovering a substantial amount of high-quality counterfeit currency resembling genuine $100 bills. Authorities suspect the duo's involvement in a broader counterfeit money operation, prompting an active investigation by the Regional Criminal Investigation Department South to determine the extent of their activities and identify potential accomplices.
Expressing concern over the situation, Regional Support Officer Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr. Patrick Lahai Dumbuya, emphasized the severe threat counterfeit money poses to the economy, potentially harming businesses and individuals unknowingly accepting fake currency. Regional Police Commander South AIG Brima Kanneh urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or encounters with counterfeit money.
Both suspects, Alhaji Lamin Bangura and Sidikie Kargbo, currently reside in police custody, actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
