CEO of National Petroleum Sierra Leone (NP-SL), Kobi Walker, recently addressed the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Trade, shedding light on critical safety concerns surrounding the proximity of residents to the company's fuel terminals. Walker's testimony underscored the imperative of safeguarding communities neighboring NP-SL terminals, citing cautionary tales from recent incidents in Guinea.

During his address, Walker also outlined the challenges NP-SL faces, notably the currency exchange dilemma encountered in purchasing fuel in dollars and selling it in Leones. He acknowledged the invaluable support extended by governmental bodies such as the Bank of Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Trade, and the Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA) in navigating these complexities.

In a commendable move towards promoting gender diversity, Walker revealed that over 42% of NP-SL's workforce comprises women. He attributed this achievement to the company's staunch belief in women's capabilities within the industry and disclosed his endorsement of the "HE for SHE" initiative, aimed at empowering women across various sectors.

Walker emphasized the collaborative efforts required from all stakeholders to ensure the safety of NP-SL terminals and the uninterrupted flow of petroleum across the nation. He reiterated that NP-SL terminals are not residential areas, highlighting the rarity of such proximity in Western nations.

The CEO's remarks underscore the urgency for proactive measures to address safety concerns at NP-SL terminals and the significance of gender inclusivity in the workforce, amidst the challenges posed by the volatile fuel market.
