Police in Kenema Intercept Vehicle Carrying Large Quantity of Suspected Cannabis

Police officers stationed at the Wanjama Checkpoint in Kenema have seized a significant amount of dried leaves believed to be cannabis sativa. The operation took place in the early hours of Thursday, October 16, 2025.

The vehicle, with registration number AWR-589, was intercepted by officers, leading to the detention of three individuals who are now assisting with investigations at the Kenema Police Station.

Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohamed H. Feika, the Regional Crime Officer, reaffirmed the police’s commitment to combating the spread of harmful drugs in the region. He revealed that this latest seizure follows a similar operation just days earlier, where four suspects were caught transporting the same substance at the same checkpoint.

Forensic tests are currently being conducted to confirm the nature of the seized materials. Authorities are also investigating the source and intended destination of the consignment and have intensified coordination with other checkpoints to uncover potential links to a broader trafficking network.

Police are urging members of the public to remain alert and share credible information that could help identify and apprehend individuals involved in the drug trade.
