Sierra Leone Ranked 117th in 2024 Global Hunger Index

Sierra Leone has been ranked 117th out of 127 countries in the 2024 Global Hunger Index (GHI), placing it among the ten most food-insecure nations in the world. With a score of 31.2, the country falls into the serious hunger category.

While there has been some progress over the years—Sierra Leone’s score dropped from 57.2 in 2000 to 32.8 in 2016—the latest data shows significant challenges remain. Issues like food insecurity, child stunting, mortality, and wasting continue to threaten the nation's future.

Experts warn that these challenges could worsen due to climate change, which is already causing droughts in various regions. However, the government remains optimistic that initiatives like the newly launched "Feed Salone" program will help improve food security and boost agricultural production in the coming years.
