SLPHA Responds to Allegations of Withholding CCTV Footage Regarding Death of Shipping Company Staff

In response to widespread reports circulating across electronic and social media, the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has issued an official statement addressing the tragic death of Mr. John Conteh, an employee of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

 

The SLPHA confirmed that the incident occurred within the Exclusive Concession Zone of Freetown Terminal Limited (FTL), leading to the accidental death of Mr. Conteh. Amidst the controversy, the SLPHA clarified their position regarding the CCTV footage that could potentially shed light on the incident.

 

The SLPHA stated unequivocally that they do not possess any CCTV footage of the specific area where the accident happened. They assured the public that relevant authorities have been instructed to work with FTL to secure any pertinent CCTV footage that might assist in the investigation.

 

Furthermore, the SLPHA management emphasized their ongoing engagement with MSC, FTL, and the Sierra Leone Police to ensure transparency and accountability in the investigation. They affirmed that both MSC and FTL leadership have been directed to fully cooperate with the authorities, providing any necessary information to facilitate a thorough investigation.

 

In a gesture of solidarity and support, the SLPHA extended heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. John Conteh. They reassured the family and all concerned parties of their commitment to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations and to support those affected by this tragedy.

 

The SLPHA urged the public and all interested parties to approach this incident with sensitivity and to provide support to the bereaved family. They also called for a continued emphasis on upholding rigorous safety protocols at the Freetown Port to prevent future tragedies.
