Suspected Coup Plotter Apprehended in Guinea
In a significant development in the ongoing pursuit of escaped inmates from Pademba Road Prison, a breakthrough was achieved on the 6th of December 2023, around 09:00 hours at the Gbalamuya Customs border. The Local Unit Commander of Kambia Police Division, CSP Mr. Abu Bakarr Magona, leading a proactive operations team, successfully intercepted an alleged fugitive, RSLAF Corporal Talib Marrah.
Corporal Talib Marrah, purportedly involved in the security breach incident at Freetown on November 26th, 2023, managed to escape. However, in a commendable turn of events, he was apprehended in the Republic of Guinea by their security forces and peacefully handed over to Sierra Leone’s Commanding Officer of the 11 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel J. Gbanie.
The transfer of custody occurred in the presence of Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea, His Excellency Mr. Alimamy Hassan Bangura, and the Defence Attaché. This cooperative effort between the two nations demonstrates the strong bilateral ties and mutual cooperation in maintaining regional security.
Following the arrest, a thorough search was conducted at Marrah’s premises by a combined team of police and military personnel. Despite the intensive search, no items of significant security interest were discovered. Marrah, accompanied by two other military personnel, was subsequently transported to Freetown to assist in the ongoing investigations into the Pademba Road Prison breach incident of November 26th, 2023.
The successful collaboration between Sierra Leone and Guinea in capturing an alleged fugitive involved in an attempted coup reflects the commitment of both nations to upholding peace and security in the region. The apprehension of Marrah provides an opportunity for a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the security breach, contributing to the ongoing efforts to ensure the rule of law and stability in Sierra Leone.
