Testimony in Abdul Kpaka Murder Trial Casts Doubt on Cause of Death

The murder trial of Abdul Kpaka continued this week with emotional testimony from Christian Martin Kamara, a relative of the deceased, Sia. Kamara's account raised questions about the initial claim that Sia had died from a heart attack, suggesting that the circumstances of her death were suspicious.

On August 13, 2024, Kamara received distressing calls from his family informing him of Sia’s sudden passing. He immediately traveled to her residence in Metchem, Goderich, arriving in the afternoon. Upon his arrival, he learned that the family was preparing to transfer Sia’s body to Virtues Funeral Home.

Kamara, along with other family members, helped transport the body to the funeral home. There, Princess Wilson, the funeral home manager, explained the process of unwrapping the body for examination. During this procedure, Kamara observed multiple injuries on Sia’s body, including a cut on her upper lip, a bloodstain on her lower lip, a red mark on her temple, swelling on her lower jaw, and bruises on her chest and knees. Overcome with emotion, Kamara began to cry.

Kamara and his brother Sylvester took their own photographs of Sia’s injuries, believing that the marks and bruises contradicted the initial explanation of a heart attack. Concerned by what they had seen, they reported their observations to the police.

Following this, Abdul Kpaka was arrested for further investigation. During cross-examination, defense counsel challenged Kamara’s testimony, but he remained firm in his belief that Sia’s death was suspicious. He stressed that the injuries did not match the description of a natural death.

The trial has been adjourned until October 18, 2024, with Kpaka remaining in custody as the investigation into Sia’s death continues.
