Three Dead, One Child Missing After Fence Collapse in Freetown
Three people have died and a one-year-old child remains missing following a tragic fence collapse in New England Ville, Freetown. The incident happened on Tuesday evening after heavy rains triggered flooding and mudflows from nearby hills, causing a section of a compound fence to fall onto a makeshift home below.
The structure housed a family of six. Among the deceased are six-year-old Aminata Sesay, found dead at the scene; two-year-old Aliue Sesay, and Sailor Sesay, an adult female, both found further downstream. The missing child, Ramatu Turay, is still being searched for by rescue teams.
Emergency services, including disaster management officials, police, soldiers, and community volunteers, have been working tirelessly since the incident to locate the missing child and provide support to the affected family.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant during the rainy season and avoid building or living in areas prone to flooding or slope erosion. Authorities also called on the public to keep drainage systems clear, watch out for signs of land movement, and immediately report any structural risks to help prevent similar tragedies.
