Two Suspects Remanded in Custody for Alleged Murder
Two individuals accused of murder have been remanded in custody following their court appearance. Police prosecutor Inspector M.K. Taylor presented Inspector Edward Conteh from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as a key witness in the ongoing trial.
During the proceedings, Conteh provided detailed testimony about the investigation. He reported that medical documents related to the deceased, Aminata, were entered into evidence. Conteh described his visit to the crime scene with Sergeant Conteh H, where photographs were taken. He also identified the body at the morgue alongside the deceased’s brother. An autopsy conducted on March 24, 2024, at Connaught Hospital further corroborated the evidence with photographs and a cause of death certificate.
The first accused was interviewed on March 25, 2024, and the second on March 27, 2024. Both individuals’ statements, recorded in English and confirmed by thumbprints, were submitted as evidence in court.
The case file was reviewed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on April 16, and charges were officially brought against the accused on May 9, 2024, for conspiracy to murder under Section 4 of the Offenses Against the Person Act 1861. The alleged crime occurred on March 14, 2024, at 9 West Brook Street, Freetown.
Magistrate Kekura denied bail for both accused, remanding them to the Male and Female Correctional Centers. The case is scheduled to resume on August 9, 2024.
