ACC Prepared to Investigate Office of the President Over Alleged Fake Receipts Following Parliament Review
In a recent television interview, Patrick Sandy, spokesperson for Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), stated that the commission is ready to investigate the Office of the President if necessary, following the conclusion of Parliament's review of audit reports.
The allegations involve fake receipts reportedly originating from the Office of the President, raising public concerns about accountability. The issue stems from a 2021 audit report, which highlighted potential misconduct involving receipts managed by individuals within the office. While the former Auditor General and her deputy were initially associated with the investigation, Sandy clarified that they are not the focus. Instead, the focus is on the alleged manipulation of receipts by other individuals within the office, prompting questions about the transparency of financial practices.
Sandy emphasized that the ACC has not yet initiated a direct investigation but is closely monitoring the situation. He explained that the ACC is awaiting the outcome of parliamentary hearings before taking any further action, as Parliament holds primary responsibility for addressing the concerns raised in the audit report. He reiterated that the ACC would intervene only if clear acts of corruption are identified and that it works alongside Parliament to ensure proper governance procedures are followed.
