"APC Plans National Delegates’ Conference Next Month: Key Agenda Includes Party Leadership and Dr. Samura Kamara’s Mandate"
Sierra Leone's main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), is gearing up for an imminent National Delegates’ Conference (NDC) scheduled for next month. The conference aims to address the current and upcoming political activities of the party and make decisions regarding the official mandate of Dr. Samura Kamara following the conclusion of his term.
The revelation was made by a senior APC official, with details such as the exact date and venue yet to be communicated. The previous NDC, held in Makeni, attracted approximately 1,600 delegates from across the country.
Sidie Yayah Tunis, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, explained that the forthcoming NDC aligns with the party's new 2022 constitution, which mandates the NAC to elect executive officers for vacant positions and decide on extending the party leader's mandate. Notably, some national officers elected during the previous NDC have passed away or traveled abroad, leaving vacant positions that will be disclosed later for interested members to vie for during the upcoming conference.
Tunis further revealed that the party's secretariats and national executives are actively strategizing to secure the necessary funds for organizing the pending NDC. Despite the original plan for the NAC to meet earlier, it was postponed due to the current state of security in the country and the ongoing political stalemate with the ruling Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP).
The APC's commitment to adhering to its constitutional mandates and democratic processes underscores the party's determination to address internal matters and prepare for future political engagements. The upcoming NDC is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the party's leadership landscape and setting the course for its political trajectory.
