Audit Service Sierra Leone Submits Comprehensive 2022 Audit Report to Parliament
On the 14th of December, 2023, the Acting Auditor-General of Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL), Salamatu Y. Kamara, presented the annual Audit Report on the Accounts of Sierra Leone for the fiscal year concluding on the 31st of December, 2022, to Parliament.
As stipulated by Section 119(2) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, the Auditor-General is mandated to scrutinize the Public Accounts of Sierra Leone and all public offices, encompassing courts, central and local government administrations, universities, and similar public institutions, as well as statutory corporations, companies, or organizations established by an Act of Parliament or statutory instrument, funded partly or wholly by public funds.
Furthermore, Section 119(4) of the Constitution requires the Auditor-General to submit the audit report to Parliament within twelve months of the immediate preceding financial year. This report must highlight any irregularities found in the audited accounts and draw attention to other matters deemed worthy of Parliament's notice.
