Bengaluru Doctor Arrested After Wife’s Mysterious Death Linked to Anaesthetic Overdose

What began as a promising love story between two young doctors has ended in tragedy and shock. Bengaluru police have arrested 31-year-old surgeon Dr. Mahendra Reddy for allegedly causing the death of his wife, Dr. Kritika M. Reddy, a dermatologist, by administering repeated doses of anaesthesia under the pretext of treatment.

The couple, who married in March 2024, were described by friends as intelligent, ambitious, and deeply in love. But behind closed doors, their story took a darker turn. In April 2025, Kritika was rushed to Cauvery Hospital in Marathahalli after reportedly collapsing at their home in Whitefield. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead on arrival.

At first, her death was treated as an unfortunate medical emergency. However, months later, forensic experts discovered traces of Propofol, a powerful surgical anaesthetic, in her body. This revelation changed everything.

Acting on the findings, Kritika’s father filed a complaint, alleging that Mahendra had deliberately overdosed his wife. Police arrested the surgeon at Victoria Hospital, where he worked as a resident at the Institute of Gastroenterology Sciences and Organ Transplant.

According to investigators, the evidence suggests the anaesthetic may have been administered multiple times before her death. The police have now reclassified the case from an unnatural death to suspected murder.

Authorities say they are still probing the motive, but the case has stirred deep emotions across Bengaluru’s medical community — a reminder that even the most promising lives can be touched by tragedy behind closed doors.
