Community and Police Unite as New Police Station Project Begins in Kambia District

Residents of Khonimaka Chiefdom in Kambia District gathered in celebration as the Sierra Leone Police officially marked the start of construction for a new police station, a project many see as a major step toward strengthening local security and trust.

The ceremony was led by the Local Unit Commander of the Kambia Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sao Vandy, who symbolically turned the soil to signal the beginning of work. He and his team were warmly received by chiefdom caretakers and community members, with traditional gestures such as the presentation of clean water and kola nuts reflecting respect and unity. Women and children welcomed the delegation with songs, creating an atmosphere of pride and collective ownership.

Speaking for the chiefdom, caretaker Pa Alimamy Amara Kamara praised the police for their consistent engagement with the community. He described Khonimaka as a peaceful and stable area, noting that this calm has been sustained through cooperation, mutual respect, and regular dialogue between residents and the police.

CSP Vandy explained that the new police station is being fully funded by community stakeholders, underscoring the strong local commitment to community-led policing. He described the project as a shared responsibility and a clear sign that residents and law enforcement are working hand in hand to protect lives and property.

The event ended on a hopeful note, with residents expressing gratitude to the police and reaffirming their readiness to support the construction process. Community members also pledged to remain vigilant and report any activities that could threaten peace or disrupt the project, reinforcing a shared vision of safety and stability for Kambia District.
