Daughter of Hawa Hunt Challenges First Lady’s Version of Arrest
Alicia Hunt, daughter of popular social media personality Hawa Hunt, has publicly accused Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Bio, of providing a misleading account of her mother’s recent arrest and detention.
In a strongly worded Facebook post, Alicia alleged that the First Lady’s statements were filled with contradictions and falsehoods, pointing to a video where Fatima Bio attempted to explain the circumstances leading to Hawa Hunt’s arrest. Alicia dismissed the explanation as deceitful and promised to expose what she described as the “evilness” behind the entire situation.
Hawa Hunt had been detained at Pademba Road Prison and was recently released before returning to Canada. Her daughter has vowed to present evidence contradicting the First Lady’s version of events, including recordings and correspondence with embassy officials.
Alicia referred to the First Lady’s comments as “blunt lies” and criticized her for what she called a display of dishonesty during the holy month of Ramadan. She also suggested that more revelations would be made, including full, unedited phone conversations and official communication.
Hawa Hunt was arrested on December 22, 2024, during a reality show appearance. Her detention was reportedly tied to social media posts made in 2023 that criticized the president and his wife. She was charged under the Cybersecurity and Crime Act of 2021 for transmitting insulting messages, inciting disorder, and defamation.
Despite initially denying involvement, the First Lady later released a video on March 1, 2025, calling for Hawa Hunt’s release. The social media campaign and political pressure led to Hunt’s release on March 4, 2025, after nearly two months in custody.
The situation also caused a diplomatic stir, resulting in the resignation of David Pratt, the former Canadian defense minister and Sierra Leone’s Honorary Consul in Canada, who described the arrest as a human rights concern.
