Deputy Minister Submits Report to Parliament for Auditor General's Potential Dismissal

On Friday, August 30, 2024, Deputy Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay submitted the Tribunal Report to Parliament, marking the start of a constitutional process that could lead to the removal of Auditor General Lara Taylor-Pearce and her Deputy, Tamba Momoh.

The report, which outlines serious allegations against both officials, is set to be debated by Parliament on Thursday, October 31, 2024. During this session, members will vote on the report's recommendations.

The Tribunal’s findings are critical, accusing Taylor-Pearce and Momoh of including unsubstantiated and unverified claims in the 2020 Auditor General’s Report. Additional accusations include improperly securing third-party confirmations of receipts, failing to adequately audit the Freetown City Council’s 2020 financial records, and engaging in conflicts of interest and breaches of confidentiality.

The report further recommends that the Anti-Corruption Commission investigate the actions of Taylor-Pearce and Momoh and that the Constitutional Review Committee establish stronger mechanisms for overseeing and disciplining the Auditor General’s office.

As of now, neither Taylor-Pearce nor Momoh has publicly responded to the Tribunal’s findings. The outcome of the upcoming parliamentary debate will determine the future of this high-profile case.
