Ex-President Koroma's Chief of Staff Offers Constructive Critique on Government's Economic Policies

Richard Konteh, former Chief of Staff to ex-President Ernest Bai Koroma, strongly criticized the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government for economic mismanagement, citing soaring inflation and widespread hardship. Konteh expressed concern about the government's decision to raise taxes amid a 63% food inflation, deeming it insensitive and detrimental to the common citizen. He further accused the government of neglecting the people's interests, attributing the surge in commodity prices to this neglect.

Sierra Leone is grappling with economic challenges such as high inflation, a depreciating currency, and escalating unemployment. The government's handling of the economy has faced criticism, prompting calls for a change in leadership from many Sierra Leoneans. While the impact of Konteh's statement on the government or the public remains uncertain, it underscores the urgent need for the government to address the pressing concerns of the people in the face of a dire economic situation.
