President Bio Urges Global Action on Injustice and Fair Representation at FOCAC Summit

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has made a strong appeal for global action on injustice and fair representation during his speech at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing. Addressing the High-Level Event on Global Peace and Security, President Bio stressed the importance of Africa having a greater presence in global decision-making, particularly on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

He pointed out that Africa, a continent heavily affected by conflict, deserves a stronger voice. "The current global system maintains inequities that undermine peace and security," Bio said, criticizing a world order that often prioritizes self-interest over fairness.

As the Chairman of the African Union’s Committee of Ten on UNSC Reform, President Bio reiterated Africa's demand for two permanent seats on the council. He argued that this change would make the UN more effective in addressing global challenges.

In his closing remarks, Bio called for world leaders to place justice and fairness at the forefront of their agendas. He warned that disunity and unhealthy competition threaten progress, advocating for a united approach to achieving peace and dev

elopment.
