The Sierra Leone Under-16 basketball team has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the FIBA Africa Zone 2 Tournament after a commanding 47-24 victory over Guinea Bissau in Dakar, Senegal.
This victory, achieved with a 23-point lead, follows their opening loss to tournament hosts and defending champions Senegal. The team’s head coach, Issa Fofana, commended the players for their determination, calling the achievement a "historic opportunity to rebrand basketball in Sierra Leone."
Currently, Sierra Leone holds second place in their group standings, just behind Senegal, with one win and one loss. The team is set to face Guinea in the semi-finals later today.
