First Lady Fatima Bio Inaugurates New Mosque Construction at UNIMAK with NLe 500,000 Donation
Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Bio, has officially launched the construction of a new mosque at the University of Makeni (UNIMAK). In support of this project, she has pledged a donation of 500,000 Leones and 250 bags of cement, underscoring her dedication to fostering inclusivity, education, and spiritual development.
The inauguration ceremony, marked by a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere, attracted a large crowd, including students, faculty members, local leaders, and community residents. The new mosque aims to serve as a significant place of worship and reflection for Muslim students and staff, promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding within the university’s diverse religious community.
In her keynote address, First Lady Fatima Bio highlighted the critical importance of religious tolerance and coexistence. She emphasized that the construction of the mosque is a call for all faiths to come together in mutual respect and understanding, aligning with Sierra Leone’s national goal of unity in diversity. Additionally, she took the opportunity to update attendees on the recently enacted Child Marriage Act, addressing the pressing issue of gender-based violence.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting educational institutions that champion inclusivity and diversity, noting that such projects are essential for national development and should be supported by all stakeholders.
