
Four Cases of Mpox Virus Confirmed in Sierra Leone
The Sierra Leone government has confirmed four cases of Mpox as of January 16, 2025. Among the cases, one is female and three are male, with infections recorded in both Western Urban and Western Rural areas.
Mpox, a viral zoonotic disease, spreads through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated materials. Common symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.
Health authorities have assured the public that they are actively monitoring the situation and implementing measures to prevent further spread. Citizens are encouraged to practice good hygiene, remain vigilant, and report suspected cases by contacting health officials.
No recoveries or fatalities have been reported so far. The government has urged community members to cooperate fully to contain the outbreak.
