Government Approves New Service Conditions for ECSL Staff Ahead of 2028 Elections

The Government of Sierra Leone has approved new and improved conditions of service for staff of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL). According to officials, the decision is intended to strengthen the Commission as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

The update was confirmed by Acting Chief Electoral Commissioner Edmond Sylvester Alpha. In a letter to the Secretary to the President, Barba B. Fortune, he thanked the government for what he described as a timely step. He noted that the revised terms have boosted staff morale, restored confidence, and will serve as a key source of motivation moving forward.

Government authorities explained that the changes form part of a broader restructuring process within the ECSL. The new conditions were recommended by the Public Sector Reform Unit and the Tripartite Committee to ensure the Commission’s structure aligns with national legal reforms and financial discipline.

With the 2028 elections drawing closer, ECSL leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to adhering to electoral legal reforms and maintaining strong management practices. The development highlights the importance of a well-supported and professional electoral body as the country gears up for its next democratic cycle.
